Text: Nina Wiedemeyer

In the city picture books, the visual repertoire of three major cities unfolds. The texts open up a variety of ways of communication: Spanish newspaper articles, an American diary. The Tokyo book ends with a dialogue. One person tries to tell another about a journey he made: “And then what do you want there? Look at pictures and take them in”, is the answer.
Transformation processes are always part of the works. Translations from one laguage into another, from a pictograph to a drawing and then onto a printing plate, as we can see it in the city picture books. From a newspaper article into a literary text as we nd it in the Kleistbooks. Again and again, a position needs to be found, something needs to be rearranged. It is important to have a close look at the pictures, to wander about and see.
